   Archbishop and Political Philosopher.
   Wulfstan was elected Bishop of London in 996 and Archbishop of York in 1002. A correspondent of aelfric, he was an important royal counsellor. He is remembered as the author of many homilies as well as the Institutes of Polity, Civil and Ecclesiastical, which discussed the duties of the various classes in society. He is not to be confused with St Wulfstan (c. 1009–95), a friend of lanfranc who, as Bishop of Worcester, did much to suppress the slave trade between England and Ireland.
